Mind the Gap
Touched down in London Town! I visited my high school bff Sharon (she’s the clotted cream to my scone) in London since she’s studying abroad there. I only had one full day there because ya know, school. But, spending time together is always so worth it! Here’s what we were up to:
Friday
3 PM: Borough Market
Shar got me from the tube station! We almost cried while hugging each other, but food’s always on our mind so we went straight to Borough before we could get too emotional. ;) It was SO good—there were lots of niche shops like nut butter and granola stands, and tons of vegan/vegetarian options. We walked around the city after, stopping by Tower Bridge and Joe & the Juice, of course.
6 PM: Sky Garden
We went right to Sky Garden when it opened and it was incredible. There were amazing views of the city, fun purple lights and music, and all the plants!
9 PM: Pastaio
Shar and I then met up with my cousin Aveni, the coolest local in town hehe. She took us to Pastaio for her favorite homemade Italian food. I loved how simple every dish was, and how minimalistic the interior was. But… my favorite part was of course getting that family time!
Saturday
9 AM: Ohhh saturday soul (cycle)
I’ve rode in different cities like Chicago and New York, but riding in a different country was such a fun experience! I’m also convinced that everything is better with a British accent.
12 PM: Camden Market
Camden was so lively! It can be a little overwhelming with the amount of food stands and people, but was overall a really fun experience. The only thing holding us back from sticking around longer was the freezing weather. 42 degrees? No thanks.
3 PM: Fortnum & Mason
I stocked up on my favorite—their Earl Grey Classic! Also, tea. The queen drinks the same flavor every morning, so we’re basically the same person??
4 PM: Tea time at The Wolseley!
Shar and I LOVE scones and have been looking forward to this for the whole trip. It was so cute and cozy inside, with windows looking out at pretty buildings and Christmas lights.
10 PM: Ballie ballerson!
Our food coma after high tea was so real. We napped and were very close to calling it a night, but I’m so happy that we rallied. This ended up being the highlight of our trip! We danced for hours and hyped each other up as always.
12 AM: Dishoom
Arrived to Dishoom 10 minutes before they closed for late night paneer rolls. A trip to London wouldn’t be complete without it!
Sunday
10 AM: Bye London :(
Shar sent me off to the airport with fresh fruit and a huge hug. I minded the gap and hopped on my train back to the airport. Only twenty-four more days until Shar and I are reunited, but who’s counting?!
Until next time, London! Let me know if you have any other London recs—I would love to check them out.
Happy travels!
