It Pays to be Kind (literally)

It Pays to be Kind (literally)

I was waiting in line at Salt & Straw (aka the best ice cream shop ever) with two friends when a man in a Cal sweatshirt gave a few papers to us. We were initially confused by what they were, but I still exclaimed “go bears!” and made conversation with him. After that, I looked down at exactly what I was given and it was a cute “good karma certificate”!

Being the happiness teacher I am, I of course got super excited and couldn’t wait to share my favorite ice cream with someone else. I ordered a scoop of Freckled Mint TCHO-colate Chip (I’m not vegan, but this vegan flavor is so good!) and asked the cashier if I could gift the free scoop to the person behind me in line. The cashier was ringing me up and then all of a sudden stopped and said, “Actually, I’m not going to charge you. This is so kind and sweet, and you just made my day!”

I wasn’t expecting that reaction at all, and it was such a sweet surprise! I had the biggest smile on my face because with just one scoop of ice cream, I was able to connect with the Cal alum, the stranger in line, and the cashier. Who knew that just one scoop of ice cream could propagate so much love and kindness?!
