Hiking in the Arizona desert in 100 degree weather? Sounds like my kind of vacation!
My dad and I hiked for daysss in the Grand Canyon and Sedona, and it was magic. There’s so much beauty in completely disconnecting and immersing yourself in the environment around you.
Grand Canyon: Bright Angel Trail (feat. everyone’s favorite hat)
We got an early start in the South Rim to avoid the afternoon heat (fun fact: the canyon traps so much heat that 104° feels like 140°). I was tempted to keep on pushing through the heat so that we could reach the very bottom of the trail, but I’m so happy that we turned around (aka my dad didn't let me go any farther).
Plus, that let me enjoy exactly where I was rather than attaching to a desired outcome. There’s so much beauty in the spaces between the start and finish line, and allowing yourself to be fully present wherever you are.
Sedona: Soldier’s Pass Trail
Even just the trailhead has the most spectacular views: huge red rocks in the distance, trees everywhere, and just so much openness. Along the trail are the Seven Sacred Pools, a sinkhole, and my personal favorite—a huge rock. I love climbing rocks to get a different perspective of the trail and to feel even more immersed in my surroundings (sorry, Mom).
Sedona: Devil’s Bridge Trail
11/10 would recommend! It’s called Devli’s Bridge for a reason though—when you get to the top, you can walk across a natural overpass, but one misstep means falling down 4,600 feet. BUT, I feel like it’s definitely more of a mental challenge. The bridge is pretty wide, so just remember to step one foot in front of the other, take in the views, and you’ll be totally fine!
Let me know in the comments if you have any questions about these trails or recommendations for my next adventure. Until then, happy hiking!
