Down and Earthy (Round 2)

Down and Earthy (Round 2)

Shout-out to Planet Earth—you keep me grounded! In celebration of Earth Day, I wanted to share some of my favorite ways to practice sustainability. Sustainability is a concept that “focuses on meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.” If you didn’t see my last post on sustainability, feel free to check it out here. Now, let’s get down and earthy (round 2):

I can’t even begin to tell you how helpful these are! I travel with these snack bags all the time, and I haven’t had to use a plastic bag since getting these. They’re very sturdy and have a tight seal, so they feel like your normal plastic bag, except you’re saving the environment with them! I use these bags to store homemade trail mix, tea bags (for when I’m traveling), fruits or veggies to snack on, and my favorite, dark chocolate. I’ve found reusable snack bags in grocery stores and online, so you have plenty of options if you’re interested.

Looking Sharp

Last year, I went camping and backpacking for the first time. As I’ve continued to get more down and earthy, I’ve realized that reusable utensils are necessary for trips like these. I have friends who keep reusable utensils in their purses and cars to use anytime, anywhere. I just got my first utensil set recently, and I have a second one coming on the way as a gift from Eco Roots (who also created the coupon code “anjaliadventures” for 10% off on their website). I’m looking forward to keeping one utensil set in my car and the other in my Longchamp for on-the-go travel.

Brush It Off

For the very few times that I wear makeup during the year, I remove my makeup with a cloth rather than single-use wipes. All you do is soak the cloth in water, wipe away your makeup, and then put the cloth in the washing machine to clean it before your next use. Even with just water, it actually removes any makeup that I wear! I feel like it’s a bit tougher to remove mascara with the cloth, so I sometimes use an eye makeup remover as well. Overall though, I feel like a makeup remover cloth is easy to use and very sustainable—just one makeup cloth can equate to around 3600 makeup wipes! I personally use The Original MakeUp Eraser and love it, but I’m sure other variations are just as good.

Farm Fresh Is Best

Whenever I’ve shopped at my local farmer’s market, I feel like I’m always able to practice sustainability at its best. I can connect with local farmers and vendors, and learn more about how they grow their produce or create other products. I’m able to refill my growlers with Fermensch Kombucha, put my fresh fruits and veggies in reusable produce bags, and carry all of my items in reusable bags. The farmers market lives and breathes sustainability, and I’m all for it.

Living Life on the Veg

Incorporating more plants than animal products in your diet is a simple way to practice sustainability right at home. All of my friends know that I love a good Buddha Bowl packed with grains, veggies, and plant-based protein. It’s super easy to make and allows me to eat a variety of foods with different nutrients. I also love working with and ordering from Sakara Life. This plant-based company commits to sustainability by sourcing “imperfect foods,” donating extra ingredients, and only including packaging that is recyclable or compostable. Treat yourself to 20% with my code: XOANJALI.

Thanks for getting down and earthy with me again. There are so many ways to practice sustainability so whatever works best for you in your daily life is a great place to start. I hope that you enjoy celebrating Mother Earth today and everyday!
