Coming Home to Myself

Coming Home to Myself

Over the past two weeks, I’ve traveled to Hawaii and Washington, and I’m back home now! Both places were so beautiful in their own ways and allowed me to disconnect even more than I was expecting to. In Washington, I went backpacking and camping, and learned very quickly that the new solar charger that I tried out at home (and seemed to work there) wasn’t working at all up in the mountains. I lost service for two days, but that also ended up being my favorite part of the trip. My phone is basically always on “do not disturb,” but going completely off the grid made me feel more disconnected than I’ve been in awhile. It allowed me to focus on capturing moments with my eyes rather than with a device. I also still felt safe outdoors since my friend Tiffany’s devices were working and she was able to continuously charge them in her car. Shoutout to Tiff for taking my photos while I got to disconnect—maybe next time we go camping, I’ll just “forget” my charger haha.

While I was away on both of these trips, this feeling of “coming home to myself” kept coming to mind. I’m still working through exactly what this phrase means to me, but when I think of “coming home to myself” in this moment, I recollect feeling wild and free among Mt. Rainier’s glaciers, waterfalls, butterflies, wildflowers, and evergreens; I visualize putting on a white coat for the first time in two weeks and starting my journey into medical school; I anticipate teaching yoga and connecting with all of you through movement, breath, and intention. I believe that disconnecting and grounding down allows us to show up as our most authentic selves, and I’m looking forward to focusing on this intention in our upcoming yoga class. If you were at last month’s yoga class, I had SO much fun blasting music in the yard, laughing with all of you during and after class, and catching up with everyone after. In the spirit of disconnecting (and my Zoom membership ending in two days lol), I’ll be teaching an upcoming yoga class in person for those of you who are vaccinated and in the Orange County area. I’m already missing those of you in the Bay Area who I’ve gotten to practice with for years and who made my 100th class one to remember, but I know you’ll be there in spirit and I hope we’ll flow again together soon. Thank you so much to those of you who voted on the yoga poll that I posted on my story—it looks like most of us are free this upcoming Tuesday, so I’ll be teaching our class then. Here are the class details:

  • When: Tuesday, July 27th from 7-8 PM

  • Where: My backyard (please reach out if you don’t have my address)

  • Playlist: tinyurl.com/st9wf7m7

  • Optional Venmo (for those of you who have asked): @anjali18

I can’t wait to see you soon for this last yoga class before I go off to school! I’ll still be local so I’m sure it won’t be our last time ever flowing together. :) One of my favorite brands is donating something tasty for us to enjoy after class, and I’m so excited for it. I’m already feeling like this will be an extra special class, and I can’t wait to see you on your mat!
